In mid-February I was contacted by my former advisor at my alma mater to submit an original piece for consideration in the English department’s yearly publication “Green Eggs and Hamlet.” I was informed that my mentor and former professor, Dr. Virginia Parrish, was to retire at the end of the term. It was difficult to put into words what an impression Dr. Parrish has had on me, but I put forth my best effort and was pleased to find it on the first page of the publication. I took many courses with Dr. Parrish but the one for which I was most challenged and strengthened was her “Writing for Visual Media” course in which we spent the semester focused on the art of screenplay. Her influence continues to show through my screenplays to this day. She will be sorely missed in her retirement.
